Waltham Pride 2022

Come show your PRIDE with us!

Join us for music, drag, circus acts, children’s activities, and more on June 4th from 11-4pm by the Waltham Common bandstand. Various LGBT and social organizations will have tables on the common as well!

  • Wear something FESTIVE! This is PRIDE after all - go wild! (but keep it family friendly 🙂)

  • Bring cash to tip the musicians & drag performers (in mixed denominations)

  • Be respectful to other attendees and remember we all have different lived experiences!

  • Have a great time!

  • Come enjoy a nice children’s story-time hosted by the Waltham Public Library.

  • Nick Hammond is a Co-Organizer of Waltham Pride who has been active in local activism, including climate activism. He will serve as MC for this event!

  • Bio: Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy is a life-long resident of Waltham, MA. Mayor McCarthy attended Waltham public schools and is a graduate of Waltham High School, Boston College, Suffolk University Law School, and Northeastern University. Prior to being elected Mayor, Ms. McCarthy served two years as a Councillor-at-Large, and served six years on the Waltham School Committee. She was also employed for 7 years as a city solicitor, and became Mayor of Waltham in 2004. Mayor McCarthy had a private law practice, and also volunteered her time for many organizations including the American Cancer Society, Opportunities for Inclusion, and Waltham Partnership for Youth.

  • Izzy Tappan-deFrees is a compassionate animal groomer, a musician and songster, a teardrop camper lovin' traveler, a daughter, a wife & mom, a trail hiker, a campfire devotee, a wood carver, a student of spirit around the world, a good listener, a part-time poet and a former data analyst and programmer.

  • Josh is a Co-Organizer of Waltham Pride who has been very active in local activism efforts. He currently runs Channel 781 News, a Youtube channel that gives debriefs of local city politics and happenings.

  • Katie Gullotti, a singer, cat lover, tap dancer, and mom, was born and raised in Waltham. Now settled in Central MA with her wife of 13 years and 2 cats, Katie has a passion for crocheting lace, reading and cooking. An active member of First Parish in Waltham, Katie sings in the choir and often leads hymns on Sunday mornings. She has deep gratitude to be back in her hometown to celebrate Pride.

  • Gail Rose Bello is a Waltham-native writer, thespian, editor, and poet.

  • Jennifer Rose is a Waltham-based activist.

  • Evan Greer is a trans/genderqueer activist singer/songwriter, parent, and organizer based in Boston. She writes and performs high-energy acoustic songs that inspire hope, build community, and incite resistance! Evan tours internationally as a musician and speaker, and facilitates interactive workshops to support movements for justice and liberation. [bio continued]

  • Jessica is a current member of the Waltham High School Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA).

  • “Growing up in Costa Rica music and dancing was always the best way to meet and connect with people. Whether you were at home doing chores or just at the market, music was everywhere . Therefore finding Zumba 12 years ago and be smitten by it was inevitable. With Zumba we were able to build a beautiful and diverse community that's always ready to step into happy and I'm extremely thankful for that. My goal is that every class feels like a party where everyone is welcome at any time with easy to follow steps with tons of energy and good fun.”

  • Kristine Mackin served as the Ward 7 Councilor on the Waltham City Council from 2017-2020. She was Waltham’s first openly LGBTQ+ elected official (as far as we know) and introduced Waltham’s first Pride resolution.

  • Circus Complex is a performing arts circus studio dedicated to inspiring creativity, athleticism, and self-confidence in people - regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, abilities, and economic status.

    Performers will be primarily area youth & young adults. Performances may involve aerial arts, juggling, and more!

  • Brenda Peña is the Principal of Waltham High School.

  • Garnering attention in the Boston nightlife scene with their chaotic and childhood-ruining looks, Toast delivers high-caliber cringe art that grapples with the struggles of being a cartoon character in a capitalist world.

    They are a non-binary pop star/plush demon, crafting energetic pop experiences that are as disruptive as they are cute.

  • Julián Cancino is the inaugural director of the Gender and Sexuality Center at Brandeis, founded in 2021. He was previously the director of the Latino Center at Tufts and Manager of Community Engagement for GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders.

  • Katie Cohen and Krysta Petrie are co-curators of the Little Queer Library Waltham, which has been in the news recently due to vandalism and thefts. Despite this, they have continued to provide queer books for the community, and have recently raised over $4000 to provide queer books to the Waltham Public Schools libraries.

  • Missy Steak is a Boston drag queen with a penchant and a passion for comedy/culture/and listing things in threes. She’ll make ya laugh, she’ll make ya cry, and she’ll do it all for cheap.

  • Intergalactic Alliance is an organization created to bring together science fiction and related costuming groups to participate in social and charitable events.

  • OUT MetroWest builds communities where LGBTQ+ youth thrive.

    They currently run more than a dozen youth meetings per month out of our hub in Framingham, plus online programming and satellite events around the MetroWest region. Each year, they directly serve more than 300 youth and engage hundreds of additional people of all ages through LGBTQ+ trainings and community events.

  • WATCH CDC works towards a more just community in the Waltham area by promoting affordable housing, providing adult education and leadership development, and empowering underrepresented residents through civic engagement.

  • The Gender and Sexuality at Brandeis University works to build a diverse and inclusive institution for women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and asexual (LGBTQ+) faculty, staff, and students.

  • Healthy Waltham works to alleviate health disparities that exist in the City of Waltham and to improve the health outcomes of the city’s most vulnerable residents. They do this through the development of programs that improve nutrition, encourage physical activity and increase access to healthy foods.

    Waltham is home to a high population of working poor, many of whom are service workers, low-income seniors and recent immigrants from Central and South America, Uganda and Haiti. The majority of Waltham Public School students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunches. These are the populations served by Healthy Waltham.

    Molly McGowan is a consulting archivist, or historical gossip connoisseur, living in Boston. Her passions in life are making elaborate crafts to foist upon her loved ones, trying not to get trampled on the rugby pitch, soliciting life advice from her many tarot decks, and searching eternally for the perfect vegetarian Buffalo wings.

  • Waltham Democratic Socialists of America will be at Pride with a petition asking the City of Waltham to provide menstrual products in all public restrooms.
